History of Remembrance Day. At 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 1918, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. The allied armies had driven the Germans back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months. In November, the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to an unconditional surrender.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilization of over 70 million people, and left between nine million and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave. The allied nations chose this day and time for the commemoration of their dead soldiers.
Advent begins on November 15th. It is a time of preparation for Christmas, the birth of Jesus Our Saviour. We don’t know when Jesus was born, but December 25th was chosen by the early Christians for a special reason. As we approach winter, we observe that the days of sunlight are getting shorter. From December 25th, they once again begin to get longer. The birth of Christ gives the world a new hope in a life that never dies, a life in eternity. A Moleben Service to Emmanuel will be held on Sundays during Advent at 6:00 p.m. First Moleben will be held on Sunday, November 19th.

Різдво належить до найбільших свят в історії людства, свято на честь того, що сам Бог, Творець неба і землі, Всемогутній, втілився, став людиною, щоб спасти людей усього світу, допомогти їм побачити правильний шлях у житті. Св. Авґустин зазначав: «Ми святкуємо день 25 грудня не задля народження сонця, а задля народження Того, хто те сонце сотворив». Молебень до Емануїла під час Пилипівки служимо кожної неділі о 6:00 год. вечора в церкві. Розпочинаємо в неділю, 19 листопада.
Lighting Candles on the Advent Wreath. Families or individuals may sign up for a specific date and time by filling in the forms in the vestibule of the Church. November 19th will be the first Sunday. We are lighting the Blue Candle, which reminds us of faith; the faith that we have in God that He will keep His promise to send His Son.

Please Be Patient. We have many new parishioners who are not familiar with our Parish social and religious activities. We are asking our older parishioners to help them adjust. Since our Parish Hall is used intensively by various groups, we ask that all planned events be approved by our Parish Office. We will try to accommodate everyone and make everyone feel at home in their Parish Community Family.

St. Demetrius UCWLC is requesting BAKED GOODS for the Bake Table at the Bazaar. Kindly bake your favourite recipe, which can be cut into smaller portions. Please pre-package it in ready-for-display/sale on the Holiday Baking Table. Kindly bring it on Friday, Dec 1st, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., when we’ll be setting up the Bake Table.
